Srinagar
In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, people belonging to different walks of life have sought urgent intervention of the UN to resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute to mitigate their sufferings.
Talking to Kashmir Media Service over phone from Srinagar, different people including Hurriyat leaders, political activists, human rights defenders, students and traders, wishing anonymity to avoid reprisal from the Indian authorities, said that the UN needed to wake up and fulfill its obligations towards the Kashmiris. They said that the Kashmir dispute should be discussed threadbare during the upcoming 75th summit of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) being held in New York from 15th to 30th of this month.
They said that the UN must step in to halt Modi-led fascist government’s move to change the demographic composition of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir which was meant to affect outcome of any UN-backed plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir in future.
The Kashmiri people said India’s August 05, 2019 move is a rebuke to the UN resolutions on Kashmir. They pointed out that India through its illegal actions is telling the world that it doesn’t care about the UN resolutions on the subject.
They said, “Kashmiri people expect the UN to uphold its commitments viz-a-viz their right to self-determination. The UN should take steps to address humanitarian crisis in IIOJK.” They added that the World Body must play its role to stop systematic killing of Kashmiris by Indian troops in IIOJK.
They maintained that the UN must ensure that its resolutions on Kashmir are implemented in letter and spirit and it must also hold New Delhi accountable for violating these resolutions.—KMS
