The British High Commissioner (designate) Dr Christian Turner hosted a reception at his residence in Islamabad to welcome back and congratulate Chevening scholars on completing their programme of studi-
es.
The scholars were presented certificates at the reception on the completion of their fully funded one-year masters’ degree. In the 2018/19 cohorts, 63 scholars from across Pakistan went to study in the top universities in the UK.
Congratulating the Chevening Scholars, Dr Christian Turner said:
“The Chevening programme is one of great pride for us in Pakistan; in the last five years we have seen the number of scholars quadruple from Pakistan with more young leaders and professionals having the opportunity to study and experience life in the UK, sharing the best of what our two countries can offer.
“I have been delighted to see more lady scholars going for the Chevening scholarship from just 6% in 2013 to 39% in 2018. Our ambition is to have a diverse range of Chevening scholars from Pakistan in 2020 with an equal split between male and female scholars.
“I look forward to seeing our returning scholars excel in their careers, make a positive contribution to Pakistan and further strengthen the bonds between our two countries.”
Applications for Chevening Scholarships to study in the UK in 2021/2022 will open in August. To find out more about eligibility and to apply, visit www.chevening.org/scholarships.
Chevening also runs a range of fellowship programmes for mid-career professionals. Desirous can find out which programmes are offered in Pakistan on the fellowship pages.
