A sigh of relief for United Arab Emirates UAE with expired residency permits, as Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security allowed individuals to renew their status or leave without paying any massive fines.

With the announcement, the grace period aims to help those with expired documentation. The authority highlighted that this initiative reflects UAE’s values of compassion and tolerance, offering violators chance to comply with the law.

Those living without permits hailed this decision, noting it provides easy path for individuals to return to their home countries. Additionally, those fleeing financial crises in Sri Lanka or dealing with health issues without insurance, who have accumulated fines, will find relief in this initiative.

The amnesty scheme will also help those who struggled to find employment after Covid, expressing gratitude to Abu Dhabi government. This is not first time when UAE announced such amnesty as a similar one was announced from August to December 2018, allowing overstayers or those who entered illegally to correct their status or extend their stay without fear of fines or imprisonment.

In previous amnesties, unemployed individuals were granted six-month residency to find a job. Approved applicants must pay AED200 registration fee and purchase an air ticket to leave within 14 days, provided they have no criminal or legal issues.
