KARACHI — Relief for Schools students and teachers as Sindh government reversed its six-day school week decision, bringing back the Saturday holiday and returning educational institutions to 5-day academic routine after the summer break.
The latest announcement means students and teachers in both government and private educational institutions will once again follow a five-day school schedule, with classes held from Monday to Friday.
Sindh Education Department confirmed that the previous directive requiring schools to remain open on Saturdays has been withdrawn. To ensure the academic calendar remains on track, schools will increase daily teaching hours by one additional hour during weekdays.
The reversal comes only days after the provincial government had announced the end of the Saturday holiday and ordered schools and colleges to operate six days a week from August 1, 2026, at the start of the new academic session.
The earlier move had sparked a major change in the school routine, with the Education Department issuing a notification for Saturday classes. Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah had also confirmed that government schools would remain open on Saturdays.
The authorities said extending weekday school timings would help maintain the required number of teaching hours without affecting students’ academic progress.
