Pakistan and the United States have made substantial progress in talks on a proposed reciprocal trade framework, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to finalising the agreement as soon as possible.
According to a press release shared by Ministry of Finance on X on Wednesday, the development came during a virtual meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer.
The two sides reviewed the ongoing negotiations aimed at expanding bilateral trade and strengthening economic cooperation.
Referring to their recent discussions in Washington, Aurangzeb welcomed the progress achieved by negotiating teams and praised the constructive engagement that has guided the talks.
Both sides agreed that negotiations had advanced considerably and reiterated their shared determination to conclude the framework at the earliest opportunity.
The finance minister stressed the importance of sustaining the pace of negotiations, noting that stronger trade and investment ties with the US would support Pakistan’s export-driven growth strategy, enhance economic resilience and create new business opportunities for companies in both countries.
He also highlighted the need for continued cooperation with the US Export-Import Bank (EXIM) to promote bilateral trade and investment.
Ambassador Greer commended Pakistan’s consistent engagement throughout the negotiations and acknowledged progress made in labour and regulatory reforms, including measures related to compliance with forced labour standards.
He reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to advancing the trade discussions and expressed confidence that the remaining issues could be resolved through continued technical consultations.
Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination, accelerate technical-level discussions and continue regular engagement to finalise the remaining aspects of the reciprocal trade framework. They expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the long-standing economic partnership between Pakistan and the United States.
