The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) in collaboration with UNDP, UN Women, UNFPA & Jazz on Tuesday organized a two-day conference to create a national policy framework and launch the report ‘Digitalization & Women in Pakistan’ at a local hotel.
A report titled “Digitalization and Women in Pakistan” was launched on the occasion. The report, according to the organizers, is a result of a rigorous countrywide consultative process, engaging public and private sectors, civil society, academia, media and think tanks etc. The report was presented at the 67th session of the Global Commission on the Status of Women during 8th March 2023 celebrations in New York.
On the inaugural day, Chief Guest, Federal Minister of Human Rights (HR), Riaz Hussain Pirzada in his address congratulated the NCSW and partners for organizing a timely conference on an important subject. “Together, we can build a nation where gender is no barrier to digital progress and where the full potential of every citizen, regardless of gender, is realized,” he said.
The first day of the conference began with the welcoming address from the Chairperson NCSW, Nilofar Bakhtiar. While welcoming the stakeholders and partners, Nilofar Bakhtiar said since 49pc of Pakistan’s population were women, the country could not progress without their contribution. We cannot afford to leave them behind.
Senator Seemi Ezdi, who moved the resolution to equip women and girls with digital skills in the assembly, spoke on the importance of a unified vision while formulating relevant policies and implementation guidelines.
In his keynote address, former Senator Farhatullah Babar highlighted the importance of gearing women in Pakistan with essential digital tools and skills.
On the occasion, the revised Child Marriage Restraint Act was presented to the HR Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada.
