ISLAMABAD – In a shocking turn of events after a failed PTI protest, no political leader or family member of Imran Khan visited him during his scheduled meeting at Adiala Jail on Thursday.
The development marks another significant moment in the ongoing political crisis for the party, as leaders appear to be distancing themselves from the jailed prime minister. Political immaturity of top PTI guns led to a retreat that has demoralized tens of thousands of supporters.
Sources familiar with the development said PTI leaders are apparently fearful of ongoing political and legal pressures, and are avoiding meeting party’s founder. Imran Khan’s family members, including his wife Bushra Bibi and sister Aleema Khan, decided against showing up at jail.
The no-show of PTI top leaders raised questions about state of the party as political figures seem to be distancing themselves from the man who led PTI to become one of leading political force.
The dilemma also left many speculating about the future of PTI and whether party’s leadership is falling apart under pressure of mounting legal challenges and political turmoil.
Political analysts are asking whether current leadership is embarrassed or simply afraid after fiasco at D-Chowk, as the party grapples with its internal divisions.
