ISLAMABAD – Sibbi sizzled at 50°C as heatwaves continued to persist across Pakistan on Wednesday.
Experts have predicted the prevailing harsh weather conditions to persist till May 24 with up to 07°C above normal temperatures.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. High pressure at the upper atmospheric level prevails over the central and southern parts of the country and will likely persist during the next three days.
Under these conditions, very hot and dry weather is expected in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan on Thursday and the next two days.
Day temperatures will likely remain between 04°C to 06°C above normal levels in Sindh, southern Punjab and Balochistan. Day temperatures will likely remain between 05°C to 07°C above normal levels in Islamabad, central, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 42°C and 44°C on Thursday and between 41°C and 43°C on Friday.
Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 40°C and 42°C on Thursday and between 39°C and 41°C on Friday.
Meanwhile, heatwaves prevailed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours.
Sibbi remained the hottest place in Pakistan, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 50°C. The maximum temperature in Dadu and Dera Ghazi Khan was recorded at 49°C, and in Jacobabad, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur at 48°C.
In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 42°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 25 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 19 per cent.
