ISLAMABAD – Amid the widening cracks between Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf, party’s famous yet outspoken leader Sher Afzal Marwat has been slapped with show cause notice for violating code of conduct and damaging PTI interests.
The recent blow follows Marwat’s removal from key PTI committees by party leader Imran Khan, prompted by former recent remarks about Saudi Arabia.
Sher Afzal faced ire for making irresponsible statements despite being instructed by party chief Imran Khan not to do so. He was said to damage ties within the party and with stakeholders.
Marwat has been given three days to respond in writing, failing which disciplinary action will be taken. PTI leader had remained at odds with senior party members for denying him a position on the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, alleging that Shibli Faraz had influenced Imran Khan against him.
For the unversed, Marwat has history of making controversial statements, including accusations against the US and Saudi Arabia, which the PTI has distanced itself from. He also engaged in physical fight with PML-N senator on a TV show.
He earlier mentioned not to let three people ‘hijack’ belaugured party. Marwat said that PTI founder Imran Khan has not ‘changed’ the decision to appoint him Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman.
