Sindh High Court (SHC) resumed hearings on the appeal against the acquittal of suspects in the high-profile Murtaza Bhutto murder case. The appeal, filed by the state and Noor Muhammad, a former servant of Murtaza Bhutto, challenges the previous acquittal of the accused involved in the 1996 police encounter that resulted in Bhutto’s death.

During the hearing, a petition was presented regarding former police officer WajidDurrani, who has been unable to attend the proceedings. Additionally, ShoaibSuddle, another nominated individual in the case, also requested exemption from the hearing. The court granted a one-day exemption to both Durrani and Suddle.

Opposition lawyers contested the exemption requests, arguing against the delay. The court has scheduled the next hearing to address these issues and has summoned all accused to appear. The appeal, originally filed by Noor Muhammad in 2010, seeks to overturn the acquittal of those involved in the shooting of Mir Murtaza Bhutto in Karachi’s Do Talwar area on September 20, 1996. The court has expressed its intention to expedite the resolution of this long-pending appeal.
