SHC moved over arrest of drivers under Section-279

Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor on Wednesday filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against arrest of drivers for traffic violations and prayed to declare the act of registration of the FIRs under Section 279 PPC against the citizens/commuters for traffic violations null and void. Making province of Sindh though chief secretary, Home Secretary, IGP Sindh, GIG Traffic Karachi respondents, the petitioner submitted that traffic police were illegally, unconstitutionally arresting citizens on the alleged accusation of driving on wrong side of roads. The Traffic police also impound the vehicles, issues/cut challans of huge fines and also arrest the drivers and hand them over at the police station for lodging of FIRs under Section 279 PPC. He said that the Traffic Police have forcibly challaned 4765 at least persons and imposed fine of Rs.11,46,650.
