KARACHI – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and all other banks fall under its control would remain close on May 28, 2025, in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, a national holiday commemorating Pakistan’s historic nuclear tests.

The central bank said that the holiday is being observed in line with the Government of Pakistan’s official notification, which included May 28 in the annual list of public holidays released in December 2024.

Youm-e-Takbeer is celebrated each year to mark Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, in the Chagai district of Balochistan. These tests were carried out in response to India’s nuclear tests and elevated Pakistan to the status of the seventh nuclear power in the world and the first in the Muslim world.

The day holds significant national importance and is marked by patriotic celebrations and commemorative events across the country, including special ceremonies in major cities.

All the government offices, educational institutions and banks—including the State Bank—will remain closed to observe the national holiday.

For the regular updates on bank holidays, the State Bank of Pakistan’s official website could be consulted.
