Russian President Vladimir Putin says the situa-tion on the Afghan-Tajik bor-der is a cause for concern.
Putin voiced his concern at a meeting with his Tajik coun-terpart Emomali Rakhmon in the Russian port city of Saint Petersburg on Monday.
A Russian media outlet quoted him as saying: “The situation on the border with Afghanistan now … causes some alarm and concern.”Putin told the visiting presi-dent that Russia and Tajiki-stan were developing coop-eration on dealing with secu-rity issues.
He added some weapons and equipment had been provided to help Tajikistan’s armed forces efficiently counter threats emanating from out-side.
Moscow has been in an effort to fortify its military base in Tajikistan with weapons and other equipment.
