LAHORE – Punjab’s schools are set for new routine as students and teachers prepare to return on August 24. School Education Department has issued a fresh timing notification, changing daily school hours across the province for single-shift, double-shift and girls’ schools.
The new schedule will bring a clear change in school routines, with institutions continuing to operate five days a week, from Monday to Friday, while Saturday will remain a holiday in government schools. Under new arrangement, single-shift schools will open at 8:00am from Monday to Thursday and remain operational until 1:30pm. Friday will have shorter hours, with classes running from 8:00am to 12:45pm.
Morning Shift Hours
For the morning shift, schools will function from 8:00am to 12:30 pm from Monday to Thursday. On Friday, the morning session will end at 12:00 noon.
Evening shifts get separate
The evening shift will begin at 1:00pm and continue until 5:30pm from Monday to Thursday. On Friday, students attending the second shift will start at 2:00pm, with the school day ending at 5:30pm.
The notification also introduces a 15-minute adjustment for girls’ schools. Under general arrangement, girls’ schools will open 15 minutes earlier than boys’ schools and will also close 15 minutes earlier.
However, the concerned Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities have been empowered to modify the difference where local circumstances make an adjustment necessary.
The revised hours are not a short-term arrangement. According to the department’s notification, they will remain applicable until October 15, 2026. School Education Department has directed all district education authorities across Punjab to ensure that the new schedule is implemented strictly.
