PTI to block departure of elected independents: Gohar Khan

ISLAMABAD – Barrister Gohar, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said that they would block the departure of independent candidates amid struggle for power to make governments in Punjab and the center.

“We will approach the courts against the independent candidates who are joining other parties,” said Barrister Gohar Khan while talking to the reporters on Monday.

The statement came after Wasim Qadir, an elected PTI leader from NA-121, joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Lahore.

Gohar Khan said that this time they would stop the buying and selling of the independent candidates.

He said that they had concerns that some people would change the loyalties.

“This practice should not continue in any other party, we did not ask for oaths or resignations from the members,” said the PTI leader.

He also said that the was not made yet which party to join.

“However, a decision will be made in a day or so about which party to join, whichever party we join, the specific seats will be ours, currently, no steps are being taken that could jeopardize our seats,” he added.

Barrister Gohar criticized Nawaz Sharif over what he said the victory speech on 50 seats, saying that Nawaz Sharif had said that the deal was done, and that he would become the Prime Minister for the fourth time.

Khan said that they would not ally with anyone, the rumors of approaching the Jamaat-e-Islami is wrong.

He further said that the matter of results is disputed on 70 seats, hoping that the Election Commission would resolve it soon.

He also made it clear that they would prefer opposition role instead of compromising the party position.
