ISLAMABAD  –  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday constituted  a five-member team for talks with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).

The sources said that the PTI provided the names of the team members to the JUI-F.

“PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan, Senator Shibli Faraz, and National Assembly Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan are members of the committee,” said the sources.

This initiative follows a series of meetings between the leadership of both parties since the February 8 elections, driven by their shared concerns over alleged election interference.

On Sunday,  Fazl revealed that the JUI-F’s top decision-making body, Majlis-e-Shura, decided not to join any alliance for now and has expressed significant concerns about PTI, despite reports suggesting a potential collaboration against the coalition government led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“Our reservations about PTI are very serious,” Fazl stated, noting that the JUI-F’s recent meetings with other political parties were merely part of a “political process.”

Regarding dialogue prospects, Fazl mentioned that JUI-F is open to talks with PTI, but criticized PTI’s inconsistency.

Fazl also highlighted the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) chief’s refusal to form an alliance with JUI-F, creating a challenging situation for establishing a clear stance on potential dialogue with PTI and the reluctance of its allied party.

The JUI-F leader further mentioned that while different delegations represent the jailed PTI founder, the party has not yet decided on a formal negotiation team.

He called on PTI and SIC to clarify their positions on holding dialogue.

Fazl emphasized that his party is committed to fostering a “better political environment” and maintaining a positive approach toward political rivals.
