Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Umar Ayub has accused the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of planning to rig the upcoming general elections. In a statement on social media, Ayub alleged that the ECP is planning to appoint District Returning Officers (DROs) and Assistant District Returning Officers (ADROs) of grade 17 and 18 who have less than one year of retirement. He claimed that these officers will be specially rewarded if they follow the instructions of rigging, and will be shown the retirement stick if they fail.

Ayub said that this is a clear attempt to rig the elections, and that it is pushing Pakistan towards a path where there will be no way to restore democracy. “The rigging plan before the general elections makes it clear that we are entering dark days,” he said.

The PTI spokesperson has also condemned the negative propaganda campaign carried out against the party, and said that PTI is the only political party that fully believes in the observance of the constitution and the law. “In its 27-year political history, Tehreek-e-Insaaf struggled in the light of its leader’s teachings, always within the framework of the constitution and law,” the statement said.

The PTI spokesperson further said that the party is the only one in the country which was founded on the rule of law and the ideology of justice, and that it will continue its peaceful struggle within the law despite all the difficulties and sufferings that come its way. The ECP has not yet responded to the PTI’s accusations.—INP
