ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked over 5,000 mobile numbers being used for defrauding public.
The authority, in a statement, said 5,294 mobile numbers had been blocked in a year after they found involved in illegal activities. It added that further action is underway to eliminate such fraudulent activities.
PTA added that it had blocked 4,507 IMEIs and 113 national identity cards of citizens in previous financial year for looting people.
A day earlier, PTA launched Annual Report indicating that telecom revenues reached a record breaking Rs955 billion in Financial Year 2023-24.
It said the total telecom subscribers have reached to 196 million, adding that broadband subscribers have surged to 142.3 million, and mobile subscribers to 193.4 million.
Fixed line subscribers increased to 2.6 million while mobile broadband subscribers reached to 138.7 million and Fixed broadband subscribers 3.6 million.
The PTA achieved remarkable progress vis-à-vis nationwide expansion of telecom coverage, improving accessibility and connectivity for millions.
Cellular mobile services now reach 91 percent of Pakistan’s population, with 3G/4G signals reaching over 81 percent.
