PSL 2024, Match 27: Islamabad United beat Multan Sultans in last ball thriller

RAWALPINDI- Islamabad United beat Multan Sultans by three wickets in the 27th Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Sunday afternoon.

Chasing a challenging 229-run target in the must-win game, United skipper Shadab Khan (54) and Colin Munro (84) put the chase back on track with a 145-run partnership after losing key wickets of Alex Hales (0) and Salman Ali Agha (2) with just four runs on the board. Sultans come back strongly by taking the wickets of Shadab Khan, Azam Khan and Colin Munro in quick succession. Cameos of Imad Wasim (30), Faheem Ashraf (23) and Haider Ali (19) helped United achieve the victory target on the last ball of the match. Abbas Afridi bagged three wickets and Mohammad Ali two while David Willey and Chris Jordan took one wicket each. Colin Munro was named player of the match.

After being asked to bat first by United skipper Shadab Khan, the Sultans maintained a healthy run rate right from the beginning and ended up at 228/4 in the allotted 20 overs. Usman Khan was the highest scorer with 100 runs followed by Johnson Charles who made 42. Yasir Khan scored 33 runs, skipper Mohammad Rizwan 20, Chris Jordon 15 and Iftikhar Ahmed 13 runs. Faheem Ashraf bagged two wickets while Naseem Shah and Hunain Shah took one wicket each.
