Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Central Punjab President Rana Farooq Saeed hinted at the potential formation of a political alliance against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), possibly involving other parties like Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Rana Farooq Saeed emphasized that the PML-N’s electoral prospects are hindered until they secure a deal, effectively relegating them to the sidelines.
He said that the PPP, in response to growing electoral alliances among their opponents, stood ready to confront the upcoming challenges.
“PML-N is such a party which cannot contest elections until they set a deal,” said the PPP Central Punjab president while addressing a press conference at the party’s Model Town office in Lahore on Wednesday. Other key leaders of the party including Shahzad Saeed Cheema, Ahmed JawadRana, Tasneem Qureshi, Dr. Khayam Hafeez, Rana Aziz urRehman, Dr. Khalid Jaan, Malik Ali Sanwal Awan, AzharAwan, and Mian Azhar Hasan Dar were also present there.
Rana Farooq Saeed said, “The world will not accept the elections if a party [PTI] is excluded from the race,”.
He called for clemency regarding the May 9 incident, advocating for the fair treatment of the party workers. He stressed the importance of putting collective interests above personal considerations and allowing broad participation in the elections to uphold the democratic process.
He made the call for forgiveness and fairness particularly relevant.
Addressing concerns about the PML-N’s intent to sideline PTI, the PPP leader clarified that political alliances are a standard feature of electoral politics, emphasizing that these alliances do not stem from personal animosity but rather the dynamics of political competition.
Expressing optimism about the forthcoming elections, Rana Farooq Saeed hinted at the possibility of electoral activity in the near future. He urged the Chief Election Commissioner to ensure transparent and unbiased elections while applauding the Commissioner’s commitment to a level playing field for every political party.
Highlighting ongoing development projects in Punjab, which he claimed included the electoral candidates, Rana Farooq Saeed suggested that the Chief Election Commissioner assess these developments in his role.
“There is no gas in the country but gas pipelines are being laid in Toba Tek Singh,” said the PPP leader while raising concerns about the lack of the gas supply in the country.
In reference to a recent protocol to the PML-N Supremo, he called upon the Election Commission and the government to ensure their credibility.
“You have protocol upon the arrival of Ladla plus. This is enough,” he said, urging the ECP and the caretakers to maintain their worth and credibility.
