The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has filed nine nomination papers for general seats, three for women, three for technocrats, and two for minority seats for the upcoming Senate Election on April 2, 2024. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah made these statements while speaking to the media after submitting the nomination papers at the Election Commission of Pakistan. Regarding the provinces’ share in the next NFC award, Murad Ali Shah asserted that according to the constitution, the provinces’ share can only be increased and not decreased.
He mentioned that the federal government has reportedly informed the IMF that matters constitutionally settled between the federal and provincial governments cannot be negotiated. Murad Ali Shah emphasized that after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, provinces have been given more responsibilities, so the upcoming NFC Award should be made accordingly. Murad Ali Shah expressed hope that the PPP would win almost all the seats, and the final list of candidates would be released after the scrutiny of nomination papers.
He highlighted the trend of PPP winning more votes in successive Senate Elections, attributing it to assembly members sometimes voting based on personal preferences rather than party lines. Regarding law and order in the province, Murad Shah mentioned that good police officers were being posted to improve overall law and order, and reshuffles were being made at various levels to enhance governance. Murad Shah also commented on the loyalty within the PPP ranks compared to other parties, stating that the PPP has loyal workers and the party leadership has selected candidates for the Senate Election based on this loyalty.
He contrasted this with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), claiming that the PTI lacks such loyalty and is focused more on their leader rather than the country’s interests.
