Kalri police apprehended a suspect who turned out to be the leader of an Afghan dacoit gang notorious for its involvement in various criminal activities across the city. According to a police spokesperson, the gang, comprising 15 members, has been implicated in acts of violence and theft targeting residents of Karachi.
The arrest sheds light on the nefarious activities of this group operating within the urban landscape. During interrogation, the detained leader of the gang, identified as Abidullah alias Karzai, disclosed chilling details of their criminal operations. He confessed to his gang’s involvement in the recent killings of police constable Wahid Parvaiz on February 13 and a Rangers officer named Asif during a robbery.
Constable Wahid Parvaiz, serving as a gunman in a security van assigned to a judge, was tragically martyred near his residence in North Karachi. Further investigations uncovered the roles of other gang members, including Bilal, skilled in crafting petrol bombs, and Ahmad Ullah Afghani and Khan, implicated in multiple assaults on civilians. Notably, the accused Haseebullah alias Karzai had been evading authorities by fleeing to Afghanistan after committing crimes, orchestrating the gang’s activities from across the border.
The apprehension of the gang leader comes in the wake of a viral video circulating on social media depicting a robbery incident, where a perpetrator was captured by the public, only to be rescued by armed accomplices shortly thereafter.
