Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Standing Committee on Advertising Convener Mehmood Parekh has called for withdrawal of government’s notification whereby the payments of 100% of classified advertisements bills will be directly paid to the newspapers/publications depriving the agencies of the trade discount they get from media organizations.
He said that advertising agencies have already paid 100% payment to the publications and urged for merit-based intervention of the Prime Minister Imran Khan on this matter of grave concern:
The business leader stressed that new procedure belied the government’s professed claim of job creation and creating economic opportunities as it spelled doom for the advertising agencies as they will either be forced to cease their operation or be compelled to carry out massive layoffs; The advertising magnet also demanded that the government should engage all stakeholders in a meaningful consultative process to arrive at a win-win position on the matter.
