WASHINGTON – United States President Donald Trump praised Pakistanis, calling them ‘Brilliant people,’ and he planned to increase trade with Islamabad after the ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump expressed warm sentiments toward the South Asian nation, praising the country’s people as “brilliant” and commending their products as “incredible.” In his interview, Trump noted that while trade between Islamabad and Washington remains limited, he maintains a strong relationship with Islamabad and believes Pakistan is eager to expand economic ties.
Pakistan’s exports to the US exceeded 1.44 trillion in rupee, with US being the largest export market. The country imports around $2.1 billion in goods from the US.
Trump’s comments come amid ongoing trade tensions triggered last April when US imposed broad tariffs on imports worldwide, including a 29pc reciprocal tariff on Pakistan, which was temporarily suspended until July.
Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb recently told Bloomberg that Pakistan aims to increase purchases from the US and remove trade barriers to mitigate the impact of these tariffs.
US President also took credit for brokering ceasefire agreement between nuclear armed nation, calling it major accomplishment. He warned that escalating hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors had brought the region dangerously close to nuclear conflict.
Trump also stressed active engagement with Pakistan, stating that cooperation requires mutual effort. He also indicated that trade negotiations with both India and Pakistan serve as a means to resolve disputes and build peace in the region.
