ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reached a significant diplomatic milestone by signing an agreement to remove visa requirements for holders of official and diplomatic passports.

The development came during the 12th session of the Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), held in Abu Dhabi after a 12-year hiatus.

The high-level meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and UAE’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The session is being hailed as a major advancement in enhancing strategic, economic, and institutional ties between the two countries.

In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ishaq Dar described the meeting as a breakthrough in strengthening cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, energy, infrastructure and information technology.

During the session, the both sides signed three key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). The most notable among them is the visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports. Other agreements include collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), digital economy, and promotion of joint investments, signaling a shared vision for long-term economic partnership.

Ishaq Dar commented on the development and said that the visa exemption deal reflects the mutual trust, fraternal relations, and growing institutional cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE.

He added that the agreements mark a new chapter in bilateral relations and would help unlock new opportunities for both nations in the years to come.
