LONDON – Pakistan Test team head coach Sarfraz Ahmed has said the team had no knowledge of an interview given by former prime minister Imran Khan’s sons to Sky News during the first Test against England at Lord’s.
The interview with Qasim and Sulaiman Khan was conducted by former England captain Michael Atherton and was broadcast by the English broadcaster during the lunch break on the opening day of the Test.
The reports had suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was unhappy with the interview and that the team had briefly hesitated about returning to the field after the lunch interval.
Responding to questions about the matter during a press conference on the second day of the Test, Sarfraz said he was unaware of any such development.
Sarfaraz Ahmed said he and his players did not know about a Pakistan Cricket Board threat to the England and Wales Cricket Board over a Sky interview with the sons of Imran Khan.

“I have no knowledge of this. I don’t know whether the PCB has lodged any complaint with the English board,” he said.
Asked specifically whether the Pakistan team had considered delaying its return to the field because of the interview, Sarfraz rejected the suggestion.
“That did not happen. We were preparing to return to the field as usual after the lunch break. We had no idea about the interview,” he said.
Sarfraz reiterated that the team was concentrating solely on cricket and its performance in the Test match.
The interview attracted attention because it featured Imran Khan’s two sons during a high-profile international Test at Lord’s. Imran Khan, a former Pakistan captain and one of the country’s most prominent cricketers, remains a major figure in Pakistan’s cricketing history.
