ABU DHABI – The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, UAE, will remain closed tomorrow (Wednesday) on account of Youm-e-Takbeer marked every year to commemorate historic nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998 at Chagai, Balochistan

“Pakistani Community based in the United Arab Emirates is informed that the Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi will remain closed on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, being public holiday on the occasion of ‘Youm-e-Takbeer’,” read a press release.

The federal government has also officially declared May 28 a public holiday in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer.

The Establishment Division has issued a notification it this regard. The Sindh government has also announced a public holiday, stating that all provincial offices, local councils, and government departments will remain closed on May 28.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange has also announced a closure on the same day.

Youm-e-Takbeer Holiday

Youm-e-Takbeer is observed every in remembrance of nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998 that made the defense of the country invincible.

The day made Pakistan the seventh nuclear nation of the world and the first Muslim state having the nuclear arsenal in its defense stockpile to exercise maximum deterrence for peaceful purposes.

The historic statement of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto that they would starve but transform the country into a nuclear power, led to achievement of this milestone.

Resisting the mounting external pressures, the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif went for the bold decision to test the Pakistani nuclear weapons and thus balancing the strategic slanting power in the region.
