Several Indians are leading global roles in top tech conglomerates across the globe and the latest to join the list is Neal Mohan who replaced Susan Wojcicki as the new head of video streaming giant YouTube.
Lately, Polish-American executive Susan Wojcicki announced to step down from the coveted role after serving as Chief Executive Officer for nine years at video-sharing company YouTube, a thriving platform amassing billions of users.
Indian American Neal Mohan is, however, no outsider in YouTube as he started working in video streaming site back in 2015, and raked several accolades for rolling out a handful of products. Some of noted features under Mohan’s belt include YT Shorts, YouTube TV, YouTube Music, and Premium which helped the social media platform to grow further.
Following Susan’s announcement of stepping down from the role, she will continue to support Neal Mohan during the transition period. Her recent blog revealed her new role across Google and Alphabet aimed at sharing vast experience and offering guidance to the leading search engine.
The new appointment of an Indian-American techie would be not-so-attractive as the new boss of one of the most visited sites would face a plethora of issues, mainly related to content moderation.
Soon after being named for the coveted role, Mohan, in a statement, called it an honor to take on this role. He further expressed gratitude to Wojcicki for her mentorship, eyeing to take YouTube to new heights.
With his background from a South Asian nation, India takes the spotlight for another time as some of its techies are spearheading global roles in prestigious organisations.
For the unversed, Mohan previously worked as chief product officer in the company. After graduating from Stanford in electrical engineering in the 90s, he went for an MBA. After getting academics from top institutes, Mohan entered professional life as a senior analyst at Accenture.
He later joined the startup named NetGravity and remained in crucial roles during his glittery career including with Microsoft.
