LAHORE – Pakistan is experiencing extensive load shedding, stretching over several hours, due to a severe power shortfall surpassing 4,000 megawatts.
This occurs as the national grid grapples with a substantial shortfall of 4,770 megawatts.
According to the sources within the Power Division, the current power deficit stood at 4,770 megawatts, while the overall electricity demand surged to 15,500 megawatts. Simultaneously, the reports of faults in the electricity transmission systems have been pouring in from various parts of the country.
The Power Division has shared insights into the electricity generation scenario, revealing that 660 megawatts are being generated from furnace oil, 1,400 megawatts from government-operated thermal power plants, and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are contributing significantly, producing up to 6,500 megawatts collectively.
Moreover, the breakdown of electricity generation includes 1,600 megawatts from nuclear sources, 500 megawatts from wind energy, 48 megawatts from Bagasse, and 22 megawatts from solar power.
