Mother of Tariq Shahid, columnist and former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) passed away after a brief illness.
Jameela Parveen, 90, was the widow of the noted humorist and poet Mehboob Azmi. Her funeral prayer was held at the H-8/ graveyard Thursday evening and was attended by noted poets, writers, academicians, the PAL colleagues and friends of Tariq Shahid.
Among the noted persons who had come to attend her Namaz-e-Janaza included former chairmen of PAL Dr Qasim Bughio, Iftikhar Arif and Dr Inamul Haq Javed, poets Mehboob Zafar, Wafa Chishti, Khaleequr Rehman who is also Secretary of Halqa-e-Arbab-Zauq Islamabad, writer Hameed Qaisar, Secretary of the Islamabad Club Anwar Raza, Tazeen Akhtar, Mashkoor Ali, Zafar, Amjad Ali Bhatti, Hamid Ali, Masood Hashmi, Malik Mehar Ali, and others.
Chairman of the PAL Dr Yousuf Khushk has expressed his grief over the death of Tariq Shahid’s mother. In a message to Tariq, he prayed to Allah Almighty to bless her soul and grant her elevated place in Jannah.
While talking to Pakistan Observer, Tariq Shahid who has recently retired from the PAL and has also undergone a surgical operation of his legs, said his mother was a kind, God-fearing lady who kept the family united and “never let us miss our father after he passed away back in 2009.”
For me and my younger brother Muhammad Arif Qureshi it is indeed great loss, he said.
Jameela Parveen’s Rasm-e-Qul (Rasm-e-Dua) will be held today (Saturday) at Tariq Shahid’s residence house no. 4-D, Khayaban-e-Suhrwardy, G-6/4 at 2 p.m while Dua will be held after Asar Prayer.
