In order to further tighten the noose around the Kashmiris striving for their UN-recognized right to self-determination and bring a demographic change, Indian government has decided to even attach part of the share in property or accounts of those who are not holding any assets, movable or immovable, on their names in occupied Jammu and kahsmir.

Indian officials claimed that while working out details of properties of freedom activists including nearly 250 those who are operating from AJK, police and civil administration in IIOJK found that many of them had no assets on their names as their houses and land were either on the names of their parents or family members.

The officials said that the latest decision was aimed at ensuring that the properties or funds of those involved in any pro-freedom activity are at-tached and frozen even if they are not on their names. They claimed that the move to attach properties and freeze accounts even if they are not on names of the persons will go a long way in further suppressing the Kashmiris.

Attachment of assets and freezing of accounts has helped in containing the freedom movement, they added.

Notably, Indian probe agencies including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), State Investi-gation Agency (SIA), State Investigating Units (SIUs) and others have attached properties and fro-zen bank accounts of scores of Kashmiris affiliated with the freedom movement.

Senior APHC leader Nayeem Ahmed Khan has voiced his grave concern over the continued bloodshed and rising human rights violations at the hands of Indian forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

In a message from New Delhi’s Tihar jail, released in Srinagar, the illegally detained APHC leader made a particular mention of the recent acts of state terrorism which killed innocent youth in the Kashmir valley. He said that young people were being deliberately targeted after being labeled “militants” in so-called operations carried out by the troops across the territory.

“On one hand, Indian government has let loose a killing spree by its occupation forces in Kashmir, and on the other, New Delhi is using its dreaded National Investigation Agency to target and silence political activists and members of civil society who refuse to accept the Modi government dictates”, Khan said. He added that attachment and confiscation of properties of Hurriyat leaders was part of India’s apartheid regime’s clampdown campaign to silence legitimate political voices in the territory.

The APHC leader said that in pursuit of the Israeli settler colonialism model, the Modi regime continues to confiscate the Kashmiris’ lands and properties to render them a tiny minority if not obliterate them, altogether.

“Houses, lands, offices of the Kashmiri people are being seized to create a climate of fear and harassment”, Khan said. He, however, maintained that illegal attachment and confiscation of land and properties of the Kashmiri people by the Indian occupation authorities won’t deter them from pursuing their collective cause of freedom.

The illegally detained Hurriyat leader urged the world human rights organizations to take effective notice of the matter and help stop bloodshed and violence, persecution, and victimization of political leaders and activists in the territory.—INP
