Karachi witnessed a significant step towards sustainability as Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, and MD & CEO of PSO, Syed Muhammad Taha, inaugurated the pioneering initiative known as PSO eco street. Located around PSO House, this innovative project marks a milestone in the effort to reduce plastic waste and promote eco-friendly infrastructure.

PSO eco street has transformed approximately 49,428 square feet of conventional road into a symbol of green living by utilizing 5,000 kg of recycled plastic waste, primarily sourced from lubricant bottles and cans collected from PSO’s Lubricant Manufacturing Terminal in Karachi. Not only does this initiative repurpose waste, but it also enhances the road’s durability, setting a new standard for environmentally responsible construction. Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab praised the initiative, highlighting its role in beautifying the city while promoting environmental responsibility and community engagement.

He commended PSO’s commitment to sustainability, urging other corporate entities to follow suit and invest in community development. In addition to road construction, PSO ECO STREET includes comprehensive beautification efforts in the surrounding area. This includes the reconstruction and renovation of road medians and walkways, now adorned with planters filled with indigenous trees and plants, enriching the local biodiversity and creating welcoming spaces for pedestrians. Syed Muhammad Taha, MD & CEO of PSO, emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainability and environmental conservation. He underscored the importance of innovative solutions to environmental challenges while creating value for communities. The project also focuses on infrastructure enhancements, including the installation of energy-efficient LED lights on new electric poles, zebra crossings, lane markings, speed breakers, and signboards, ensuring clear and safe guidance for travelers while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. The PSO eco street initiative stands as a testament to the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

It not only showcases innovative solutions to reduce plastic and carbon footprints but also sets a precedent for eco-friendly urban infrastructure that can serve as a model for future developments. PSO extends gratitude to all stakeholders for their support and collaboration in making this initiative a success.
