ISLAMABAD – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman made startling revelations about former army and intelligence in bombshell interview, but he retracted from his statements.
After naming former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa and Faiz Hameed, Fazl clarified that he mistakenly took the name of former ISI director general in the interview with local TV channel.
Clearing air on the controversy, Fazl retracted from his statements but said Gen (r) Bajwa and Lt-Gen (r) Faiz Hameed played their part in rigging 2018 elections.
The seasoned politician admitted huge difference between JUI-F and Imran Khan’s PTI but said it’s time to end bitterness. Fazl was of view that nowhere in the Asian nation have polls done as per the book.
After meeting top brass of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf, he said both sides discussed positive developments. He further mentioned telling PTI delegation that rigging also took place in KP.
Bajwa, Faiz reject Fazl’s shocking claims
Former chief of army staff General retired Qamar Javed Bajwa and ex-DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hameed categorically rejected the JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman’s statement alleging them of orchestrating the ouster of former prime minister Imran Khan.
Ex-generals told media outlet that Fazl should correct his facts first before making the allegations. They said Faiz Hameed had been transferred as DG ISI months before the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan.
Maulana might have forgotten that Gen Faiz was serving as Peshawar corps commander when the motion was tabled, they said. Sources close to Gen Bajwa said the former army chief had two meetings with the JUI-F chief, adding that one of them was held when the latter was staging a long march against the PTI government. The sources claimed that the meeting was unpleasant.
