LAHORE – Widespread monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls are expected in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Thursday night and the next two days.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan at lower tropospheric levels. They will likely penetrate central parts of the country from tomorrow. A westerly wave also prevails over upper parts of the country.
Under these conditions, monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Mianwali on Friday night and the next two days.
Heavy falls are also likely at few places in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Hafizabad. Rains are also likely in Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Leyyah, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan.
Widespread rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/ Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore and Hafizabad from tonight to 11th August.
Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad. Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galliyat.
Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34-36°C on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, rain-wind/thundershowers occurred at isolated places in Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Bahawalpur remained the hottest place in Punjab where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. Maximum temperature in Dera Ghazi Khan was recorded at 39°C, and in Sargodha and Multan at 38°C.
In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 65 per cent.
