ISLAMABAD – Khurram Mushtaq has been picked as acting Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan International Airlines as the airline set to fly to European nation after EASA’s relief.

The new appointment has been made by Board of Directors of the national air carrier. Mushtaq, who remains one of the airline’s senior-most executives, will take over once Air Vice Marshal Amir Hayat’s term concludes.

With vast experience in the aviation sector, Kamran Mushtaq has previously led several key departments at PIA, including commercial, airport services, flight services, security, and vigilance.

This appointment comes a month after the airline was seeking candidates for coveted position. Applicants were required to be between the ages of 45-57, with at least 20 years of experience in running large corporations or a minimum of 10 years in aviation management.

The airline is gearing up to resume European flights, starting with Paris, within a month time. This follows the lifting of a ban by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

PIA gets major relief after revocation of ban, which was imposed four years ago due to concerns over aviation standards, was lifted. The ban cost PIA approximately Rs40 billion ($144 million) annually in revenue.
