The 1992 Khojaly genocide reminds us that the world is still marked by conflicts and escalations and those taking the path of aggression and occupation must be convinced, and if it needs be, countered collectively and with full might.
This was the consensus opinion of the speakers including Pakistani lawmakers, intellectuals, foreign policy experts and members of academia at a seminar titled “Together for Peace and Humanity, End to Ethnic Cleansing & Genocide” organized by the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in collaboration with the Embassy of Azerbaijan on Monday.
The seminar was attended and addressed among others by Chairman of Senate’s Defence Committee Mushahid Hussain Sayed, ambassadors of Central Asian countries, Ambassadors of Morocco, Bosnia, former President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Sardar Anwar Khan, Director General NUML Brig Muhammad Ibrahim and others.
Heads of various faculties and departments of the university and a large number of students attended the seminar.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed in his keynote address said both Pakistan and Azerbaijan shared identical stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh and Kashmir conflict.
Kashmir and Nagorno-Karabakh are in a constant state of unrest because the states of India and Armenia were committing crimes against humanity there on a daily basis and the world community, particularly the UN, EU and the US should look into it and resolve these decade-old conflicts.
Senator Mushahid said Pakistan and Azerbaijan were on the same page and faced a similar situation “Therefore, Excellency, Pakistan is well aware of the sufferings of internally displaced people of Azerbaijan and condemns aggression and continuation of occupation of the one-fifth area of Azerbaijan by the Armenian forces,” he said while addressing to Azerbaijan ambassador Ali Alizada.
He also drew attention of the audience to the Human Rights report and UN resolutions which described the Khojaly incident as “the largest massacre to date in the conflict”. Azerbaijan Ambassador Ali Alizada on the occasion gave an overview of the Khojaly genocide saying as in case of other such crimes, Khojaly genocide continues to live on and will never be erased from history.
