Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of control, in Pakistan and other parts of the world will observe Martyrs’ Week from tomorrow (Tuesday).
Call for the observance of the week has been given by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference. As per the calendar issued by the APHC, on 7th July, protest rallies and processions shall be organised and pro-freedom banners and placards be displayed.
8th July will be observed as Resistance Day to mark the martyrdom anniversary of popular youth leader, Burhan Wani, and his associates, while 13th July shall be observed as Martyrs’ Day.
The APHC has called for complete shutdown in IIOJK on these days. It has also given a call for marches towards Tral, the native town of Burhan Wani, on July 08, and towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqashband Sahib in Srinagar on July 13 where the martyrs of 1931 are buried.
The APHC call has been supported by all pro-freedom leaders and orgaqnizatons.
The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDP) while supporting the call for a general strike said that Shaheed Burhan Wani was an institution in itself who gave a new shape to the resistance movement.
JKDFP acting Chairman Mahmood Ahmad Saghar in a statement issued in Islamabad said, “It is the distinction of Shaheed Burhan that the freedom movement was revived and it became clear to the occupying forces as well as the whole world that our youth engaged in the armed struggle, though very few in number, are the freedom fighters and India’s ongoing propaganda against them is not only baseless but biased.”
“Once India agrees to resolve the Kashmir dispute in its historical context, our armed youth will also give up guns and play their part in building and developing their homeland,” he added.—KMS
