KARACHI Kings eventually halted their hunt for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) trophy when they defeated Lahore Qalanders by five wickets at the National Stadium on Tuesday night to crown themselves as the fifth edition’s champions. Star Player Babar Azam played a decisive role in guiding Karachi over the line with eight deliveries to spare.
Though it was the first final to be staged behind closed doors without spectators on hand to cheer on their heroes owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, yet the excitement level amongst the cricket lovers was great with the people glued to their TV screens to see their favourite players in action. Definitely, the ambience would have been far different if the spectators were present at the stadium. Anyway, we have no doubt in saying that the fifth edition of the PSL was also a complete success and credit for this definitely goes to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its top management as well as the security agencies which ensured the peaceful conduct of the mega event. Cricket Leagues have made modern cricket much more fascinating and interesting in the last few years and by all means the PSL has emerged as one of the most successful Leagues attracting foreign players and providing much needed entertainment to the cricket frenzy nation. It has become a brand since it was launched back in 2015. It has got bigger and bigger after each of its consecutive successful editions and the same momentum must continue in future as well. The PSL, in fact, is a major breakthrough for Pakistan cricket. It not only has paved the way to open the gates of international cricket in the country but has also served as a great platform for domestic cricketers to show their talent and potential and we expect that the batters and bowlers who performed extraordinary in the fifth edition will be given due chance at the national level to showcase their prowess. The upcoming series against New Zealand is very important and the entire nation expects from the green shirts to bring laurels to the country by outclassing the Kiwis in all the formats.
