Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr Hafiz NaeemurRehman has demanded of the government to immediately launch a probe into the Green Line project in Karachi.

The JI leader expressed grave concerns on Tuesday over the news reports, citing massive corruption and irregularities in the already delayed project.

The JI leader in a statement held the Sindh government responsible for the misconduct. He said that the Sindh government’s premeditated negligence made it possible for a local company to use substandard material for construction in the name of a foreign company.

He strongly condemned the provincial government’s conduct that caused heavy losses to the national exchequer.

The recent report, he said, was another addition in the saga of the government’s defamation.

EngrNaeem said that the fraud and corruption in project was a cruel joke to the residents of the megalopolis.

He said that the project launched in 2016 by the PML-N government was supposed to be completed by 2017 but still the project was in pending by the mid of calendar year 2021.

He said that a Spanish company, according to media reports, took up the matter with the local financial crime watchdogs — the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) — claiming that the material used in the substandard constructions for the said project was associated with her name contrary to the fact.
