ISLAMABAD – More widespread monsoon rains and gusty winds with heavy to very heavy falls are predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday with occasional gaps.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate most parts of Pakistan, which will strengthen within the next 24 hours. A westerly wave also affects most central/southern parts of the country.

Under these conditions, more intermittent rains and gusty winds are predicted in the twin cities, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Punjab, northeastern, southern Balochistan, and southeastern Sindh on Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday. Heavy rains are also likely at isolated places in Kashmir, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and north Balochistan.

From July 6 to July 8, heavy to very heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and Balochistan. Downpour may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 31°C and 33°C on Monday, between 30°C and 32°C on Tuesday, and between 29°C and 31°C on Wednesday.

Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 36°C and 38°C on Monday, between 35°C and 37°C on Tuesday, and between 34°C and 36°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rains and gusty winds with isolated heavy falls occurred at isolated places in Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northeastern/southern Balochistan during the last 24 hours.

Nokkundi remained the hottest place in Pakistan, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 47°C. The maximum temperature in Dalbandin and Chilas was recorded at 46°C, and in Sibbi and Dadu at 45°C.

In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 96 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 88 per cent.
