Pakistan Muslim League-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has said that former prime minister Imran Khan’s “lies” that the United States orchestrated a conspiracy to topple his government have been “ripped apart”.

“You [Imran Khan] played a dangerous game to cling to power. Used sensitive forums like the NSC for the conspiracy drama,” she wrote in a Tweet on her official handle on Thursday. Her Twitter statement came soon after DG ISPR Maj-Gen Babar Iftikhar categorically said that a communiqué issued following the NSC meeting last month did not contain the word conspiracy and also clarified that the military leadership did not give any options to ex-PM Imran to end the political crisis in the country.

Maryam added that Imran Khan had also approached the establishment to seek an NRO (relief in corruption cases). In another tweet, she said the time has come to hold the former premier accountable for “playing” with the national security of the country for political gains.

She said, “Be patient, face and don’t run away as usual because the nation will not let you run away now!”

The PML-N vice president further said, “Today your lies have been exposed and you played a dangerous game to cling to power. Serious forums like the NSC were used for conspiracy theories.”

On March 27, the high-powered NSC headed by Imran Khan met to discuss the diplomatic cable which the PTI government claimed contained evidence of the US plot seeking a regime change in Pakistan.

The NSC after the meeting issued a statement expressing serious concerns over the non-diplomatic language used in the cable, saying it was tantamount to interference in the internal matters of Pakistan. The NSC then decided to issue a demarche to the United States.
