While hearing former premier Imran Khan’s plea for the dismissal of terrorism case against him, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday ordered the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to make decision and inform the court about it by September 19 (Monday).
“Please set another day beyond September 19, for I will not be available on Monday,” the prosecutor pleaded with the court. “No! Submit the report on Monday. Don’t make the matter a joke. The whole world is watching. If the prosecutor is not available, the JIT should appear in person,” said IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah. A two-member IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah conducted the hearing. “At the last hearing, we had directed Imran Khan to join the investigation. Has Imran Khan joined the investigation?” the IHC chief justice questioned.
“We had asked the investigation officer to investigate and tell us how the provisions of terrorism are applied,” the chief justice remarked. “The provisions of terrorism against Imran Khan are still intact,” Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi told the court. “Is there any other material other than Imran Khan’s speech? Terrorism is a very serious crime.
