Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said that Tahafuz Darsgah is the first of its kind institution in South Asia for quality education and vocational training of transgender children, which will meet the educational needs of transgender children and will help them to transform into a better citizen of society. IGP Punjab said that the establishment of Tahaffuz Darsgah is right step for the bright future of transgender children, admission, appointments of hostel warden, principal and teachers should be completed at the earliest.IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed that Victim Support Officers of DPOs and District Protection Centers identify transgender children from their areas for education. Dr. Usman Anwar said that transgender children are being provided with a safe environment and opportunities to lead a better life through Tahafuz Darsgah.
Dr. Usman Anwar said that Punjab Police is grateful for the support and cooperation of UK Curriculum & Accreditation Body, a British charitable organization, for establishing the Tahafuz Darsgah. IGP Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that residence will also be provided to the children who are rejected by their families due to being transgenders in the Tahafuz Darsgah. He expressed these views today while presiding over an important meeting on the professional affairs of Tahafuz Darsgah at the Central Police Office.
In the meeting, the administrative issues of the protection school built for transgender children were discussed ASP Syeda Shaherbano Naqvi gave a briefing to IG Punjab about the Tahaffuz Darsgah project. Senior officers including DIG Welfare Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin, SSP Operations Lahore Ali Raza, ASP Gulberg Shaherbano Naqvi also participated.
