KARACHI — Pakistan Peoples Party PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto was again caught in the moment as he tried explaining an English idiom in Urdu.

The country’s former foreign minister had everyone rolling during his speech at Sindh High Court Bar Association event, when a slip of the tongue led to unexpected laughter from the audience.

It started with Bilawal’s attempt to convey an idiom, he stated, “They say if you give them an inch, they take a mile…” which prompted a wave of chuckles among his party members and reporters.

Realizing the double meaning of his statement, PPP leader quickly clarified, saying No, I mean in English; I’m referring to something else. There’s an English proverb: ‘Give them an inch, they take a mile; that’s what I meant.”

He was quick to notice his statement, and said “Oh, the memes that will be made now!” His lighthearted response resonated well with attendees, but it did not go unnoticed by political rivals.

The viral incident again highlighted the unpredictable nature of political discourse in Pakistan, making Bilawal a topic of conversation on social sites.
