ISLAMABAD – In anticipation of a potential protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the security has been heightened around the Islamabad High Court (IHC), with additional deployment of police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel.
The PTI announced a protest for today to express solidarity with the judiciary. In light of this, security arrangements have been intensified not only around the IHC but also at other key locations across the capital. Law enforcement officials remain on high alert to prevent any untoward incident.
The protest comes amid growing frustration within PTI ranks over delays in the hearing of a case involving the suspension of sentences handed to PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the £190 million National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case. PTI leaders have confirmed that the party leadership will again approach the High Court today to seek an urgent hearing.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Information Adviser, Barrister Saif, confirmed that a major demonstration will take place outside the Islamabad High Court. He stated that all opposition parties have been invited to participate in the protest, emphasizing a united front against judicial delays.
In a statement, Barrister Saif demanded the repeal of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, claiming it has paralyzed the judicial system. “The amendment has chained the judiciary. Delayed justice is a denial of justice,” he remarked.
He further alleged that the continuous postponement of court hearings proves that the cases against Imran Khan are politically motivated. “If there were any merit to these cases, they wouldn’t be delayed. The objective is clear — to keep Imran Khan behind bars,” he said.
“Imran Khan continues to haunt the illegitimate government. His release threatens their survival,” he added.
The PTI protest is expected to draw significant attention, especially amid ongoing tensions between the opposition and the government over alleged political victimization and judicial interference.
