Ten lives have been tragically lost in Karachi over the past two days due to a severe heatwave, as confirmed by Commissioner Karachi, Syed HasanNaqvi. While acknowledging the higher than usual mortality rate, Commissioner Naqvi clarified that these deaths were not solely attributable to heatstroke but included other factors.
Authorities are actively verifying these fatalities through data collected from cemeteries, municipal records, cold storage facilities, and hospitals across the city. Commissioner Naqvi emphasized proactive measures being undertaken by Karachi administration, including the establishment of 124 heatwave relief centers providing shaded areas, chilled drinking water, and shelter.
In response to the crisis, electric providers have been instructed to refrain from load shedding during heatwave periods to ensure uninterrupted power supply for cooling purposes.
The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged citizens to remain hydrated and seek shelter in designated heatwave centers if necessary.
