A positive development for students as Punjab government revived free laptop scheme for students in Budget 2024-25.
Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman made the announcement during presentation of the Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the provincial assembly.
Minister said the government intends to reintroduce the laptop scheme for students to enable them to access modern technologies. The government will start procuring laptops in the next fiscal year to distribute them among students. Additionally, the provincial government has allocated Rs69.74 billion for education.
Free Laptop Scheme 2024
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved given approval for a new laptop scheme for students. The approval came during a meeting focused on reforms in the higher education sector, which was chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The meeting covered topics such as enhancing higher education, the laptop scheme, and providing transportation for female students.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz approved the laptop scheme, announcing that students in Punjab will once again receive modern laptops after a seven-year hiatus. In addition to this, the province will distribute 20,000 electric bikes to students.
Laptop for All
Pakistan’s federal government is launching ‘Laptop for All’ scheme for Pakistani students as part of the Youth Initiative.
The scheme aims to provide students with laptops through interest-free bank loans. Despite financial challenges and IMF conditions, the government plans to incorporate the scheme into the next fiscal budget.
The government said due to the interim government and limited time for the new government to prepare the budget, laptops were not distributed to students earlier.
