In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference General Secretary, Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani, has paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal massacre.

Indian troops had martyred more than 50 innocent people in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21, 1990 by opening indiscriminate fire on peaceful demonstrators who were protesting against the molestation of several women by the troops on the previous night.

Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani in a statement issued in Srinagar said the Kashmiris are indebted to the sacred blood of their martyrs they will take the ongoing freedom movement to its logical conclusion despite Indian suppression and repression. He reiterated the shutdown call given by the illegally detained APHC Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt, on the martyrdom anniversary of the Gaw Kadal martyrs.

The APHC General Secretary said that the Kashmiris had witnessed many massacres including Gaw Kadal, Razekadal, Bijbehara, Sopore and Handwara in their struggle for freedom from Indian illegal occupation.

He urged the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to take cognizance of the genocide of the people of IIOJK being carried out by Indian occupation forces and initiate practical steps for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.

Meanwhile, APHC-leader, Syed Sibate Shabbir Qami, in a statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemned the harassment of civilians ahead of Indian Republic Day, the 26th January. He lamented that every year 26th January brings more miseries for the Kashmiri people and they face the wrath of Indian troops.

The APHC leader termed the cancellation of the registration of Kashmir Press Club by the authorities as an attack on freedom of expression. He said such actions expose the ugly face of so-called Indian democracy. He said the Modi regime despite all its tyranny would never succeed in suppressing the Kashmiris’ struggle for securing their right to self-determination.

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, posters have appeared in Srinagar and adjoining areas memorizing the sacrifices of the martyrs of Gaw Kadal massacre on their 32nd martyrdom anniversary.

Over 50 people were killed and hundreds others were injured when Indian troops had opened fire on peaceful protesters in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21 in 1990. The demonstrators were protesting against the molestation of several women by the troops in the area.

The posters, displaced by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Alliance while recalling the great sacrifices of the victims, reiterated the Kashmiris’ pledge to take the mission of the martyrs to its logical conclusion. Posters with writing “Unbelievable…unexplainable” were pasted on walls and poles in the territory. Some posters carrying pictures of top APHC leaders warranted the attention of the United Nations to resolve the Kashmir dispute.—KMS
