Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has revealed that former ISI director general Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed aspired to become army chief and even sought an apology from PML-N President Nawaz Sharif in pursuit of his goal.
In an interview with a private television channel, Khawaja mentioned that as General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s retirement as army chief approached, Faiz Hameed continued his efforts to become the army chief until the very last moment.
The minister also disclosed that the events of vandalism on May 9 also pointed towards Faiz Hameed’s involvement, though he was not acting alone. He further claimed that Faiz Hameed provided logistical support, set targets, and offered strategic advice for the events that took place on May 9.
