Pakistan, the country of over 240 million, will celebrate Eid ul Adha on June 17, 2024 Monday as Zil Hajj moon sighted on Friday.

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Karachi has announced the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon, indicating that Eid ul Adha will be celebrated in Pakistan on June 17. The committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, made the announcement after meeting with members from central and zonal committees, as well as representatives from SUPARCO, the Met Office, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Sub-committees in Lahore, Peshawar, and other cities also convened to collect testimonies. The zonal committees in Peshawar and Quetta confirmed the sighting of the crescent in their respective cities.

Eid ul Adha 2024

Eid ul Adha falls on the tenth day of Zil Hajj, coinciding with the Hajj pilgrimage. Muslims in Pakistan are expected to celebrate the occasion on June 17, as the moon sighting was likely on the announced date.

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries marked the beginning of the lunar month, the last month in the Muslim calendar, on June 6.

According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, the Zil Hajj new moon was sighted on Thursday evening, and there are “strong chances” of the crescent being sighted on Friday evening.

With Eid ul Adha approaching, cattle markets have been set up in different areas for people to purchase cows, goats, sheep, or camels for sacrifice.
